OOOOOkk....la homa where the wind comes sweeping down the plain!

Another day off of the bike.....it is kind of funny - but we get tired of riding - but then on those days that we are off....we miss it....
BLUF
So....we are in beautiful downtown Copan, Oklahoma for the weekend. So my brother, Rick and his wife, Ann have been touring us around.
We have seen the Price Tower - this building was designed by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright and is considered one of his greatest achievements.
Frank Lloyd Wright's The Prarie Skyscraper- The Tree that Escaped the Crowded Forest - Bartlesville Oklahoma
We also found out that Bartlesville has placed statues of buffalo/bison around town....to "welcome" visitors and others to their town.....
Jeanette trying to feed the buffalo (this one has OK Mozart - which is a weeklong festival that happens here in northeast Oklahoma)
We found a few other "gems" here in Bartlesville....such as the water tanks for the folks here.....
Apparently, Bartlesville needs a larger hot water tank - as they might run out if everyone takes a shower at the same time.....
And in the close-by town of Catoosa, there is the "Blue Whale".....which is off Historic Route 66 in Oklahoma....
The elusive "blue whale" about to strike at its prey....

And now for the rest of the story.....
The Price Tower was completed in January of 1956. It was constructed for H.C. Price Co.... an pipeline construction and pipeline coating company. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is his only skyscraper. The tower is 191 feet tall - and has a spire that reaches to 221 feet.
The Tower has a lot of copper louvers and trim. The copper has the nice green "patina" (it is a form of corrosion - like the Statue of Liberty has) - but the patina actually protects the copper from further corrosion.
The spire.....the building has 19 floors - the 19th floor was the personal office of H.C. Price. The 17th floor is a small restaurant.
This little sculpture in front of the building celebrates the contribution that the building has made to the Bartlesville architecture.
The view from the 16th floor outside patio

We showed you the photos of the water tanks and the buffalo - so - we also took a trip to Catoosa - and saw the famous "blue whale". It was some kind of swimming hole/tourist attraction when Route 66 was the place to be..... it is now a small tourist attraction (free) and you can fish there (catch and release only).
The small sign that sits outside the blue whale exhibit
Jeanette - playing "greeter" at the exhibit
Brother Rick and his wife Ann - being attacked by the blue whale (notice the people fishing towards the back of the tail...there was a lot of small fish and some rather large turtles in the pond.
Apparently, the whale has a couple of "boogers".....
This is a cute little place with a lot of "blue whale-themed" articles....here is a picnic table..
And here are the potties.....
And finally, I will leave you with a real world famous roadside attraction..... this was a "joke" that started with a local (Bartlesville) radio DJ. He was continually referring to the commute traffic around Wann, Oklahoma (there are about 10 houses in Wann, Oklahoma). So the DJ continued "expanding" on Wann - referencing incoming dignitaries (such as the President or local members of congress) - "flying in" to Wann International Airport - and making speeches at the local amusement park..... And the name of the Amusement park was "6 Flag Poles over Wann America" (a takeoff of 6 Flags of America theme parks).....well, the community got together and created.....the following....
Yes, here is Wade at the entrance (and the main plaza and the exit) of 6 Flag Poles over Wann America
Of course, this brought in so much money - that the local leaders decided to create a Country Club.....
Here it is...with the proceeds, the local community created the Wann Country Club...

So that is it for today.
Here is where we have been so far.
We will be on the road Monday - Jeanette is going to write tomorrow....I should be writing to you from Dodge City Kansas on Monday.

Wade and Jeanette.
