For My 38th Anniversary- I Want An "E" Ticket Ride!!

Well today, Jeanette and I celebrated our 38th anniversary. Last year at this time, I was in Iraq - and this was about the time we started discussing a "long PTSD motorcycle trip" when I returned. So how did we spend our anniversary? Well, I don't think we could have had a better day - INCLUDING yesterday's GREAT trip through Yellowstone. Today.....was even MORE awesome!
Today was a short 150 miles from Cody to Sheridan, Wyoming. And we rode in the Bighorn National Forest (and like the title says....it was an "E ticket" ride, baby!) But I digress....
We got to sleep in - because it was a short drive and the weather started out in the low 50's - so we decided to go have breakfast and wait for it to warm up. Conveniently, there was a place called "Granny's" that was within walking distance of the hotel.....
I had the special - two eggs, two sausage patties, two biscuits and gravy on the side.....Jeanette had two eggs, toast and hash browns.....see below.
LOOK at the size of those biscuits!!!
Barely ate half a biscuit -
finished the eggs, barely dented the sausage,
hash browns or toast.....
it is not a pretty sight, but it is part of the food chain!
The route today - notice the section that goes
through the "green" Bighorn National Forest"...
So after breakfast, we packed up (I don't remember if I told you, but I have so often heard people say "How do you fit all that stuff in there?" - and they don't realize that one sidebag is still almost completely full...) - anyway, we drove out of Cody, Wyoming.
Yesterday, we were on Hwy 20 - awesome ride. Today we were exclusively on Hwy 14...Hwy 14 leaves Cody fairly calm and serene - nice straight roads - but you could see the mountains off in the distance.
There were a few "buttes" looming here and there
...but the big boys are far ahead just calling our names....
We drove about 50 miles to Greybull, where we stopped for gas and a quick drink. Then we headed east towards the mountains....
mountains getting closer....
and closer
and closer.....
How would you like to live here?
getting REALLY CLOSE to the mountains....
Then, the road closed in - you could almost hear the "chug-chug-chug" of the roller coaster starting up the first big hill of the roller coaster and then.....
Entering the REAL Matterhorn!
long way down, Virgil....and look at the curve sign!
I wish I could spend every anniversary doing this.....
The road curves all over.....
what you are seeing is the bracing UNDER the road....
Cool....
See the river way down there?
Jeanette would take photos on this side of the bike -
she refused to look over the other side....
We went over the "Sheridan Pass" - Elevation 9,000+ ft. The temperature got below 50 degrees and we had to stop and put on an additional layer of clothes and our heavier gloves.
The last 10 miles or so - were exhilarating and exhausting and exquisite.....the road had twisty, windy curves where I was in first or second gear the entire time. Jeanette had her gloves on - because of the cold - so she couldn't take photos.....but it was so much fun, we were tempted to turn around and go back.
So we got to the end of the curvy roads and arrived in DAYTON...... Wyoming.....We had lunch at the Branding Iron - a local place - but the chiliburger was excellent (Jeanette and I split it and a salad.)
At the Branding Iron
After lunch, we went to a museum of a local artist....Hans Klieber. He passed away in the eighties and is pretty well thought of in the "art world".... (I had never heard of him)... but the city moved his log cabin studio office to a more "public" place. At the museum you could see some of his original works and his original desk

Hans Klieber's desk - and some of his original works.
In front of the Museum - a horse statue donated by the City of Dayton Wy.
So we finished up the day by driving into Sheridan, Wyoming. We were tired - even though it was a short day - so we just went to Wal-mart and bought some stuff for a chicken and cheese wrap.... and we will call it a night.
SO.....Is it the type of anniversary that everyone would want?? Probably not, but I think it works for me and my girl. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Tomorrow, we are finally out of Wyoming and off to South Dakota (Spearfish) for a few days....
Hope you are enjoying sharing our adventure.
