G-A-F (octave lower) F-C

Well hopefully, between the five notes and the picture below - you got where we went today......We saw "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" yesterday - and I found (on Google) the five notes.....But let me start from the beginning....

Devil's Tower - Wyoming
So this morning, we were in the mood to drive.... we had some leftover flatbread and cheddar cheese from dinner last night - so we just ate that and got on the road....here is our route for the day....
Sheridan, Wyoming to Spearfish, SD - the LONG way....
We went 232 miles today....and it went by very fast.... although as you can see (if you look closely at the map above) that we took back roads - vs. just bombing down the freeway. We love going the backroads - but today there was another incentive as well - the wind was just down right.....WINDY! And it wasn't just one direction - it was swirling and constantly shifting. Jeanette and I had a tough time - but luckily, we did not have a bunch of traffic around us for the most part.....
So we started down Hwy 14 (the same highway that we were on all day yesterday) - but it was not near as curvy. There was some nice farm lands and minor hills - which made for a nice smooth ride with long curves that were a nice change of pace from the switchbacks of yesterday and the day before.

Nice farmlands and scenery.....
But we made good time. We arrived in Gillette around 9 am (we are still getting used to Mountain Time - as we are two hours behind.) Then, we started the trek to see one of the world's most recognizable monuments..... a site that inspires awe - whenever it is mentioned. You know of what I speak of...
Yes.....
it is....
The Spotted Horse on Hwy 14 in Spotted Horse, Wyoming ....world renowned for..... well, for being a sloppily painted statue of a spotted horse..
.
Yes, they spared no expense to make a world
famous spotted horse....Where you ask??
Why in Spotted Horse Wyoming........
of course, Spotted Horse was closed -
until about 3pm - you see, it is mostly a bar.....
but it's two owners are the occupants....
We all "lined up" for a photo op with "Spotty, The Spotted Horse"
(I gave him that name myself....pretty clever, heh?)
And after all the grandeur and majesty of the Spotted Horse, we went and saw Devil's Tower.... and took the usual photos....
He's got the whole tower.....in his hands....
he's got the whole tower...in his hands....

We didn't stay too long.... as frankly, when we didn't see aliens or Steven Spielburg, we decided to call it a day and head into Spearfish.
We finally rolled out of Wyoming - we have spent a total of 7 days either in Wyoming or partially in Wyoming.... and we have seen a lot of cool things and places....but it is ever eastward we travel.
So we "notched" another state in our "quest" to do something in all 48 contiguous states... below is our first foray into South Dakota...
The sign for entering into South Dakota....
We arrived in Spearfish about 12:30 local time..... and when I signed up at the counter, I was entered in a drawing - and I won an "upgrade" to a suite.... but they where totally booked - so I drew again and we won a free shuttle trip to Deadwood (of course, I think it is a complimentary shuttle anyway and we tipped both drivers too.......)- so we headed out to Deadwood about 2:30 this afternoon.
Deadwood nowadays is mostly a gambling/tourist trap - but it does have some interesting things going on.

One of the cool looking steeples of one of the town buildings...
Jeanette wanted to give you a "taste" of downtown Deadwood....
One thing we got to enjoy was the "re-enactment" of the shooting of Wild Bill Hickock.....
The guy who played Wild Bill....
he was actually pretty good.
The rest of the "cast" was chosen from the audience
(we got there only minutes before the start of the show -
so I didn't get to participate) but it was very informative....
The "location" is accurate - but the building/saloon
where WB was shot was torn down....
to make room for a bigger saloon....
which goes by the name of the original saloon.....Saloon #10.
A painting of Wild Bill - this one hangs in the Saloon # 10
We also toured the Adams Museum - and saw some pretty cool things - but you were not allowed to take photos - they had some old video of the town from 1913 - when the roads were all gravel (they even showed a couple of motorcycles riding behind some cars on that road)....
Anyrate, the museum did only allowed you to take photos with some cardboard cutouts.....
"So Calamity, what say you and me
blow this popsicle stand and paint the town red.....???"
Jeanette with her new favorite "old broad"
Poker Alice (Actually, Poker Alice was a tough old broad -
she outlived 4 husbands, ran a brothel plus
several liquor establishments and was a fixture in Deadwood
for many years..yet.....because of her religous upbringing -
she never worked (or played) on Sundays.....
Her body is now buried in Sturgis.
Now I am worried that Jeanette continually introduces me
as "her first husband....."
Well, we had an enjoyable day....not sure about tomorrow, whether we will go sight seeing or just lay around and relax ....we have been "on the go" for 3 weeks now....and we still have a little less than two weeks to go....so we are trying to "pace ourselves".....

We hope you are enjoying in sharing our adventures.
