I Can See For Miles And Miles And Miles And....

Greetings from South Dakota! (I think South Dakota is Indian.....er...Native American for "bumpy roads and hot winds....") Seriously...how can we take this state seriously when the land along the highway is flatter than the highway?  Have you seen that commercial where the girl is riding a bike on oblong tires?? That is EXACTLY what today's ride was like....
So we are starting our 4th week on the road. We did over 260 miles today - from Watauga, SD to Huron, SD. It was mostly about getting miles in today.... but we did want to show you a few things....
First, we spent last night at a very nice bed and breakfast - called the Dakota Countryside Inn...the breakfast was mostly cereal, cinnamon rolls and coffee....

The Inn had 10 rooms -
all with either a king or two queen beds, tvs, and private bath.....
When we arrived yesterday, there was no one here -
we went inside and there were 5 different room keys
and a note that said  "pick your room" - so we did....
We left this morning with our rain suits on.
We did hit a little bit of rain - but nothing bad....
Here was our route today....
Watauga, SD (near the ND border) to Huron, SD - 260 miles...
We crossed the Missouri River near a town called Mobridge. It was still cool, but we took our rain suit off - and put on sunscreen....
The weird thing was, we had breakfast at 8 am Mountain Time.....when we got a little farther east - we moved over to Central Time....so once I learned it was 12:45 vs 11:45 - I WAS STARVING!!! So we had to find a hamburger place. We went a little further and stopped at a place in Miller, SD called the Redneck Paradise Cafe, Tavern, & Saloon for lunch.....
Two burgers.....someone was hungry...
(needless to say....it was not a pretty sight...
but it was part of the food chain.)
Also, in one of the small towns on our route, the local Fire Dept. had a Memorial to "those who gave their lives as first responders".....I took a quick photo... and thought I would share with you.

So we finally made it in to Huron - again, wind blown, bounced around like we were a toddler in a bounce house full of teenagers....but we got here....
Tomorrow, I am hoping we will have a few good stories to share with you...
Until then.....
We hope you are enjoying sharing our adventure...
Wade and Jeanette.
